Culture and Nature Holidays in Colombia

Much of the magic and mystique that enshrouds Colombia undoubtedly comes from its unprecedented geography. After all, how many countries can boast two coastlines, jungles, glacier-capped volcanoes and sierras, three immense mountain ranges with over 100,000 square kilometres of cloud forest, island archipelagos, vast plains and deserts amongst others?

It is because of this physical diversity that Colombia is the most biodiverse country on Earth per square kilometre, boasting almost 20% of the world’s bird species and over 4,000 species of orchid to name just two of the remarkable facts about this Eden on Earth.

Consequently, Colombia’s extreme terrain has resulted in the abundant cultural mix that can be seen in its villages, towns and cities. Its illustrious history is characterised by the pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial and modern epochs – each of which have left their own intriguing collection of landmarks, sites and culture, all with their own story to tell about how they’ve contributed to the Colombia we see today.
