Trekking in Colombia – Holidays and Tours

Trekking in Colombia with The Colombian Project – an adventure that you’ll never forget.

Cross jungle rivers and bathe in spectacular waterfalls and hot-springs, climb thousands of metres up through cloud forest and remote mountains, home to immeasurable wildlife and diversity, to reach a landscape almost entirely unique to Colombia – the Páramo – a delicate, mystical land of volcanoes, clouds, lakes and frailejónes.

Our Colombia Trekking Holiday:

The Mystical Páramo and Volcanoes Trek + Colombia highlights

Trip Overview:

  • An amazing and exclusive full-service camping trek over the volcanoes and Páramo of Colombia’s Central Cordillera mountain range, in one of Colombia’s premier national parks – Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados.
  • Visits to the UNESCO sites of The Coffee Cultural Landscape in the Colombian Coffee Region and the legendary walled city of Cartagena de Indias.
  • Excellent hotels and comfortable guesthouses.
  • Substantial time on the Caribbean coast to relax on some of the best beaches in the world, bordered by dense tropical jungle and the highest coastal mountain range on the planet.
  • Internal flights to avoid long hours travelling by road.
  • Beach,  Bogotá and Cartagena extensions available + luxury hotel upgrades.

Prior to our adventure deep into the high Andean Colombian wilderness we’ll first stop off in Bogotá to see the very best that this vibrant South American city has to offer. We then fly on to the newest UNESCO site in Colombia – the beautiful Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia.

Perched on the western slopes and foothills of the Central Cordillera, the Colombian Coffee Region is an endless green carpet of vegetation that covers the impressive valleys and mountains.

This six-day trek begins in one of the sleepy colonial towns near PNN Los Nevados which provides the gateway to the world above. We’ll ascend through dense and diverse Andean cloud forest, passing roaring mountain rivers, hanging valleys and waterfalls, with various wildlife-viewing opportunities on the way.

As we rise and pass the 3,000 metre (9,900 feet) mark , we’ll start seeing the cloud forest transform into sub-Páramo – a landscape dominated by elfin-forests with tight grottos of gnarled trees and bushes and dense clouds which we’ll venture through before emerging, over 600 metres above.

The Páramo is the ecosystem that defines the roof of Colombia. This wondrous place is a mixture of moorland, frailejón forests, lakes, marshes and volcanoes – all changed in an instant by the harsh sun or dense clouds that appear out of nowhere.

After conquering the Páramo and the park’s various volcanoes, we’ll descend back into the warm valleys and hills of the Colombian Coffee Region for a well-deserved chance to relax and reflect before moving on.

We’ll then fly to the tropical Caribbean beaches of Santa Marta, ready for some more jungle exploration before finishing in the beautiful colonial walled city of Cartagena de Indias.
